Iconeek is proud to introduce here a very nice and highly attractive vintage diving wristwatch by Omega: the Seamaster 300 "Big Triangle".
The Omega Seamaster 300 was firstly introduced in 1957 and was developed as a professional tool for divers. Ref. ST165.024, such as the present watch, was launched in 1962 with caliber 552 and without date indication. Ref. ST166.024 followed two years after, fitted with the date indication. The cases for this model were initially produced by Hugenin Frères (HF) and later by Centrale Boîtes (CB)., such as the presetn watch stamp CB on the inside caseback.
On an Omega original period advertising, we can read : « Specially designed for the skindiver: Seamaster 300. A super waterproof model for underwater fishing and exploration », probably a raison why the model was commissioned by the British Royal Navy, circa 1967. With movement number 25619310, the present watch was delivered in December 1967. It is interesting to notice that the same year, the Sword hands appeared in the model. Trained eyes will immediately noticed than the present model could have been choosen by the British Royal Navy, because it shares the two characteristics of the military: a large triangle index at 12 and the attractive sword hands.
Water-resistant to 660ft, at the time, the model comes with a three-body construction: a large 42 mm. tonneau-shaped stainless steel case with lyre lugs, a snap on bi-directional rotating black bakelite bezel bearing the 60-minute for decompression time, a screwed case back. The case back is stamped inside « CB » for Centrale Boites, the case maker. The inside case back is also engraved with the reference number "165.024". The present watch comes with its original Omega bracelet, Ref. 1039 and correct endlinks no. 516. The clasp is engraved « 1039 13 1.68 ». The approx. overall length is 190 mm. The size between the lugs is 20 mm.
Under the hesalite glass, we find a superb original matte back dial with painted luminous indexes, luminous "big triangle" index at 12, minute and second division, luminous steel Sword hands. Inside is ticking a caliber Omega 552, with copper color finish, mechanical, 24 jewels, monometallic balance, self-compensating flat balance spring, shock-absorbers, swan-neck regulator. Dial, case and movement are signed.
With its black bakelite bezel, large size, large indexes and legibility, professional skills, the model is among the best vintage dive watch to collect!
Condition: 8.5/10, in very good overall condition, attractive look, normal signs of wear in places, all consistent with time
