OMEGA, FLIGHTMASTER, SECOND GENERATION
ICONEEK price: 3’700.- CHF
The Omega Flightmaster, Ref. ST. 145.026 was launched in 1971. The model is a fine and rare, tonneau-shaped, two time zone, water-resistant, stainless steel aviator's wristwatch with chronograph and stainless steel Omega link bracelet. The Flightmaster is regarded as one of the finest pilots watches ever made. The present watch belongs to the second generation of the model, being fitted with a constant second at 9. On the first generation, caliber 910, introduced for pilots in 1969, the dial was fitted with a two-tone 24-hour indication at 9 instead of the running seconds counter. Dials were made by Singer.
According to scholars, Omega introduced the second generation, with revisited cal. 911and modified case, to pleased the pilots, as it was more convenient for them to known and see if the watch was currently working with the help of the constant second. These Flightmasters wear surprisingly well for how large they look, and have gained a cult following. Similar examples are fully described and illustrated in OMEGA, Pilot’s Watch, Flightmaster Only, by Gregoire Rossier and Anthony Marquié.
The present model comes with a two-body construction: a large stainless steel polished and brushed case with hooded lugs, 3 crowns, one crown at 3 for time setting, one between 8 and 9 for revolving minute ring, and one between 10 and 11 for second time zone, two round chronograph pushers, mineral glass, and a screw down case back engraved with the Flightmaster logo.
Under the glass, we find a tricolor dial, anthracite with painted luminous baton and dot indexes, three black subsidiary dials for the seconds at 9, the 12-hour register at 6, the 30-minute register at 3, an outer white checkerboard 1/5th second scale, outermost revolving 60 minute ring for elapsed times, two tone white/black luminous white Baton hands for the time functions, orange hands for the chronograph, luminous blue hand for the second time zone. Inside ticks a caliber 911, mechanical, hand wound, copper colored, 17 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance, shock absorber, self compensating flat balance spring, index regulator. The case back is later original. The present watch comes with the original fitted steel Omega bracelet Ref. 1162 and correct endlinks no. 172. The approx. overall length is 185 mm. Dial, case and movement are signed.
A cool vintage Omega!
