HEUER, AUTAVIA « VICEROY », AUTOMATIC CHRONOGRAPH, REF. 1163V
ICONEEK price: SOLD
Iconeek is proud to introduce here a very attractive 1970s left-handed automatic chronograph with date: The Autavia Viceroy.
Reference 1163V is the "Viceroy" model of the Autavia, so named because this version was produced as a promotional item for Viceroy cigarettes. While the 1163T Autavia of the period sold was selling for $200, enthusiasts would buy the 1163V for $88 by sending in Viceroy coupons / proofs of purchase. The Viceroy model (Reference 1163V) is distinguished by the tachymeter bezel, the economy dial (with red dots by the applied markers and white elements incorporated into the markers), brushed steel hands (with red tips and luminous inserts).
The model comes with a two-body construction: a polished and brushed large tonneau-shaped stainless steel case, with fully visible round chronograph pushers, plastic domed crystal and a screwed down stepped case back. Under the glass, a superb two-tone, matte black dial with applied steel baton indexes with central white line and luminous tips, luminous hands, subsidiary guilloche silvered dials for the 12-hour and 30-minute register, aperture for the date at 6. The present Autavia has a huge presence on the wrist. The bi-directional black bezel is in extremely good condition, only a small scratch at 150, but hardly noticeable when worn.
The present watch is a very nice example of a classic Heuer, this one has the Tachymeter bezel so is a true "racers watch" all nice original and ready to wear. In original and unpolished condition, satin case clearly visible, some very small scratches and signs of wear in places, well defined sharp clear case edges, preserved bevels, black bezel almost intact, a small scratch at 150, beautiful deep black dial with good luminous. Dial, case and movement are signed. A similar watch is illustrated and described in Heuer Chronographs, by Arno Michael Haslinger, page 68 & 69.
A superb and iconic 1970s look and the perfect daily Heuer Autavia!
Condition: 9.5/10, great original overall condition, this watch would be the perfect addition to any collection, hard to find this good.
